'Pedro y su paisaje'

In 'Pedro y su paisaje', Recrearte exhibits works created in various techniques (oil, watercolour, acrylic or mixed media on canvas or board), inspired by the poetry of Pedro García Cabrera and his special relationship with the sea and the landscape of the Canary Islands. The starting point for this exhibition is García Cabrera's essays 'La ordenación de lo abstracto' and 'El hombre en función del paisaje', in which he addresses questions involving contemporary art. In keeping with the aims of the Cátedra, the goal of this activity is to raise awareness of the life and work of Pedro García Cabrera, fostering connections with individuals or artistic groups outside the ULL. Colectivo Recrearte, currently made up of 50 members, was founded in 2003 around the painting workshop led by artist Fernando Larraz. Its most defining characteristics are, on one hand, the use of art as a driving force in its members' lives and as a means of communication between them and society, above and beyond technical skill or stylistic preference; and on the other, the freedom to choose both style and technique as well as the approach to the canvas (a metaphor for life), so that the evolution of each member's work traces a learning journey aimed at finding their own idea of beauty.
