San Juan Fires, Pride & Beach Polo in Tenerife

This is one of those magical weeks in Tenerife when ancient tradition and modern celebration collide. The island lights up — literally — for the bonfires of San Juan, while Arona Pride brings colour and joy to the south coast. Add international beach waterpolo, live jazz, and a solidary beer festival, and you've got a week that captures everything this island does best. HIGHLIGHTS Noche de San Juan — Bonfires Across the Island (June 23) The shortest night of the year (well, almost) is celebrated across Tenerife with bonfires blazing on beaches from Puerto de la Cruz to Puerto de Santiago. This deeply rooted tradition invites you to jump over flames, dip your feet in the sea at midnight, and burn away the old to welcome the new. Puerto de la Cruz hosts a full programme of San Juan festivities running all week, while the Charcos de Valleseco and Playa de Puerto de Santiago both host their own spectacular Noche de San Juan gatherings. Find a bonfire, make a wish, and let the fire do the rest. Arona Pride 2026 (from June 22) The south of Tenerife transforms into one of Europe's biggest Pride celebrations. Centred around the iconic Pirámide de Arona in Playa de las Américas, expect concerts, pool parties, parades, and an unmistakable atmosphere of love and freedom. Whether you're part of the LGBTQ+ community or simply an ally who loves a good time, this is unmissable. The broader Orgullo del Sur programme in Costa Adeje adds family-friendly Pride activities too. XIII Tenerife International Beach Waterpolo Tournament (June 27) Las Teresitas, one of the island's most beautiful beaches, plays host to an international beach waterpolo tournament. It's a thrilling sport to watch — fast, physical, and set against golden sand and turquoise water. Pack your towel, grab a spot, and cheer on the teams. Jazz Café – Al Farabi Tribute (June 24, €5) On San Juan night itself, the Espacio Cultural CajaCanarias in Santa Cruz offers something more intimate: a jazz tribute to Al Farabi. At just five euros, it's one of the best-value cultural evenings you'll find anywhere on the island. QUICK PICKS SanBetinto 2026 (June 25) celebrates the wines of Tacoronte-Acentejo at Plaza de la Concepción — a perfect excuse to taste local vintages. The 8th Caña Solidaria in El Médano (June 26) pairs craft beer with charity on the beachfront plaza, and it's free entry. Theatre lovers can try Murder at the Leal (June 23, €5), an interactive whodunit at La Laguna's gorgeous Teatro Leal. Kids will love Shadows in the Library (June 24), a free shadow theatre workshop, and there are free summer camps launching across the island from La Orotava to Vilaflor and Santiago del Teide. The II Music Schools Encounter in Los Realejos (June 23) showcases young local talent, while the Redondo Trail in Icod de los Vinos and a 3x3 Basketball Tournament in Valle San Lorenzo (both June 27) give the sportier crowd something to chase. And if you haven't yet explored the Masonic Temple of Santa Cruz, free visits continue — one of the island's most surprising hidden gems. Un Tardeo Tonto (June 25) at La Baranda Masái offers a laid-back San Juan afternoon party, and the celebration of 100 Years of Son Cubano at Castillo San Miguel brings Cuban rhythms to the island's medieval-themed venue.
