Puerto de la Cruz is the north’s tourist hub with a strong cultural programme — outdoor concerts on Plaza del Charco, events at Castillo San Felipe, and the Puerto de la Cruz Carnival each February.

Plaza del Charco is the town’s living room — most free concerts, markets and fiesta programmes happen here or a street away. Castillo San Felipe runs an intimate year-round programme of jazz, classical and singer-songwriter nights by the seafront, and the Lago Martiánez complex hosts seasonal open-air sessions.

July is the month to aim for: the Fiestas de Julio combine the Virgen del Carmen boat procession — the bay packed with decorated fishing boats — with weeks of free open-air concerts. Carnival arrives each winter with its own galas and the high-heels Mascarita Ponte Tacón race, the north’s most photographed party.
