Roads Back

The three films at the heart of the 'Caminos de vuelta' series, screened by Filmoteca CajaCanarias, explore the distance between who we were and who we are — following characters who fail in the attempt, who reject it by choice, or who, however late, dare to settle their debts with their origins. The feature films are París, Texas, Nomadland and El olivo. 7 September – 'París, Texas' (1984, Wim Wenders). A drama about family reconstruction and memory. Travis Henderson returns after years of absence to reconnect with his son and make peace with the past. Palme d'Or winner at Cannes and internationally acclaimed. 14 September – 'Nomadland' (2020, Chloé Zhao). Portrait of a woman who travels the American West living as a nomad after losing her home. Winner of three Academy Awards, four BAFTAs and two Golden Globes, celebrated for its humanist and poetic vision. 21 September – 'El olivo' (2016, Icíar Bollaín). The story of Alma, a young woman who sets out on a journey to recover the ancient olive tree her family sold. A metaphor about roots and memory. Anna Castillo won the Goya Award for Best New Actress for her performance.
