Él. From Darkness to Light. A co-production by Fundación CajaCanarias, the Festival LittleOpera de Zamora, and the Teatro Solís de Montevideo. The figure of Mercedes Pinto takes center stage in this new operatic creation, which transforms her autobiographical novel Él and her poetic and testimonial work into a contemporary narrative about violence, resistance, and the transformative power of words. With music by Laura Vega and a libretto by the creator herself, the work draws on Mercedes Pinto's lived experience to build a story that moves between memory, fiction, and social protest. The Canarian composer, one of the most prominent figures in contemporary musical creation in the islands, has forged a career defined by the pursuit of new sonic languages and the integration of elements from diverse musical traditions. Trained in composition and rooted in contemporary creation, her catalogue spans works for various instrumental ensembles, stage projects, and collaborations with national and international cultural institutions. Él tells the story of a woman who discovers how idealized love can turn into an experience of suffering and subjugation. Through song and spoken word, the protagonist journeys from darkness into light, revealing not only the violence inflicted in the private sphere, but also the social structures that for decades helped silence her.
