theatre, dance & shows
Tenerife’s performing arts calendar is rich and varied, anchored by the iconic Auditorio de Tenerife and the Teatro Guimerá in Santa Cruz — one of the oldest theatres in the Canary Islands. Throughout the year the stages fill with drama, contemporary dance, flamenco, opera, circus acts, and stand-up comedy.
Beyond the main auditoriums, you will find theatre popping up in cultural centres, plazas, and even caves across the island, especially during festival seasons and the popular summer open-air programmes.

Where to see theatre in Tenerife
Teatro Guimerá (Santa Cruz, 1851) is the oldest theatre in the Canaries and the main stop for ballet, drama and contemporary dance tours. Teatro Leal in La Laguna complements it with smaller-scale productions and an excellent comedy programme. For large-format shows — musicals, opera, touring ballets — the Auditorio de Tenerife and Auditorio de Adeje are the primary venues.
Independent theatre thrives at Espacio La Granja, Aguere Espacio Cultural and the Sala Ta-Tum circuit. Keep an eye on MAPAS (Mercado de las Artes Escénicas del Atlántico Sur) in July, where you’ll catch African and Latin American companies on tour.
Festivals worth planning around
Festival Muévelo (contemporary dance, November), Festival Keroxen (experimental performance, October), Festival Dansa Metòpolis (April) and the Canarias Improvisa stand-up circuit are the tentpoles. The Auditorio de Tenerife’s Temporada de Ópera (January–May) is the biggest operatic programme in the Canaries, and most productions go on secondary run at the Auditorio Infanta Leonor in Arona.
