With an explicit and satirical tone, it chronicles her social downfall from luxury to ruin and loneliness, marked by her affairs and a notorious scandal. These performances mark the Spanish premiere of the opera. The Duchess lives in a gilded cage of desire and scandal. Everyone plays a part in her fall: lovers, staff, the press, judges — a society that first consumes her, then condemns her. Much is said about her, but rarely to her. Her intimacy is devoured by the public gaze, while no one takes responsibility for the moral circus.
