"El Viento es salvaje" by Las Niñas de Cádiz, at Teatro El Sauzal. Two friends. Such close friends they are like sisters. Only one shadow over their friendship: "While one grew up confident, pampered by life and smiling, the other felt wretched..." We strip Phaedra and Medea of their robes and bring them into the present day, turning them into seemingly ordinary beings. Only when conflict arises will they suddenly embrace an ancient fatality, under whose influence they will sweep away everything that stands in their path. Set against the backdrop of Cádiz — a city with a Macondian character, where everyday elements take on a magical dimension that foreshadows tragedy: the unsettling levante wind, heralded by the knife-grinder's flute and the arrival of a circus on the outskirts of town, the birdsong, the chorus of neighbours... El viento es salvaje is a tragedy shot through from end to end with laughter. It is the inheritance of the land we come from and always return to — Cádiz — where we learned that in every terrible story there is a paradox that can lead to comedy, and conversely, that in every burst of humour there is always a tragic undercurrent.
