Historian and cultural communicator Néstor Verona presents 'Finados. Recovering the Canarian Traditions of the Night of the Dead' — a theatricalised and musical story of traditional Canarian witchcraft, featuring Antonio Conejo, Mar Gutiérrez, Alicia Rodríguez Reyes and Parranda El Abuelo. Book tickets online The show weaves songs from the Canarian repertoire with dramatisations of the traditional Ranchos de Ánimas associated with the Night of the Dead. The production also benefits from the expertise of Dulce Rodríguez de la Rosa, folklorist and member of the Cabildo de Tenerife's Traditional Dress Regulatory Council, who advises on period costume. The project aims to highlight the rich intangible heritage linked to the rituals and customs of our ancestors on the Night of Finados — and in particular the world of traditional witchcraft — through legends and stories from the deepest roots of the Canary Islands. Set in an unspecified moment during the first half of the 20th century, when most of the population was still tied to rural life, the story unfolds in a highland village and recounts a dark tale steeped in superstition and fear of the malevolent witches of the traditional Canarian collective imagination.
