Keroxen 2026 – 10 September

Quartets from the Conservatorio de Música de Canarias, 'Eraserhead' performed by Xiu Xiu, works by Messiaen performed by Esther Ropón and Ernst Surberg, and the combo Waq Waq Kingdom alongside Kalma Vj — the first of Festival Keroxen's September 2026 dates. Esther Ropón and Ernst Surberg take on the work of Messiaen, one of the most influential and yet least celebrated contemporary composers in history — perhaps for his boldness in deconstructing and restructuring rhythmic passages, or for his cadences inspired by birdsong and exotic music. A tribute worthy of new music, one that had inexplicably been missing from Keroxen's history. The American project Xiu Xiu has spent nearly a quarter of a century defying the music industry — and making friends along the way. Pop anthems alongside Mitski, experimental excursions with Merzbow, a split album with Dirty Beaches, among many other collaborations. This is not the first time Jamie Stewart's project has drawn from David Lynch's filmography. 'Eraserhead' fits like the missing piece in the always-uncomfortable gears of their discography. Waq Waq Kingdom offers a hypnotic journey through a galaxy of cosmic electronics, where voices and choral samples seem to invoke spirits from Japanese mythology. Organic percussion, drums, and gamelans coexist in harmony with minimalist, exquisite synthetic atmospheres. A fusion of Asian folk traditions made for dancing in the underground car park of any European superclub. As underground as it gets.
