La Librea de Tegueste

La Librea de Tegueste is a traditional performance combining religious, historical, and symbolic elements. It includes the procession of the Virgen de Los Remedios, the Militia, the Dance of the Flowers and the Ships, and culminates in the re-enactment of a battle evoking the defense of the island under the Virgin's protection. La Librea de Tegueste is one of the most emblematic cultural expressions of the municipality, linked to the festivities in honor of Nuestra Señora de Los Remedios. Its origins date back to the 17th century, keeping alive a tradition that blends devotion and historical heritage. The performance revolves around four main elements: the Militia, the Dance of the Flowers, the Ships, and the procession of the Virgin, symbolizing the renewal of a vow of protection. After the processional route, a battle between the ships and the castle is staged, evoking the defense of the island and triumph through the Virgin's intercession. Declared a Site of Cultural Interest in 2007, La Librea is held every four years and stands as a benchmark of Canarian intangible heritage for its uniqueness and deep historical roots.
