about

In 2026, MUSA turns its gaze back to Mexico — a country that starred in one of its earliest editions, in 2015. This return revisits that bond from a fresh perspective, drawing closer to a land of extraordinary diversity as well as the deep historical and human ties linking Mexico and the Canary Islands. 'Rojo descolonial' — Gloria Godínez, a Mexican artist based in the Canary Islands, presents a performative action using cochineal as a symbolic axis to reflect on memory, the body, and decolonisation. Her piece revisits the material history of the pigment and reclaims vernacular knowledge and the historical connections between Mexico and the Canary Islands. The choreographic action exposes the pre-colonial origins of cochineal and its transfer to the Canary Islands in the 19th century. The artist's dye-stained body, concealed beneath equally dyed wool, generates a dance that activates unconventional spaces and proposes a decolonial reading of colour and its historical value. Yacambú + Yuli y su mariachi and DJ Kali session — Yacambú performs a repertoire of traditional Mexican dances; Yuli y su mariachi pays tribute to the country's classic music with an emotionally charged staging; and DJ Kali delivers a set of Mexican rhythms through the lens of contemporary world music.
