Celebrating Kurtág - Festival Contemporáneo 2026

Festival Contemporáneo, now in its sixth edition organised by the Gobierno de Canarias, welcomes the duo of Tanja Becker-Bender (violin) and Sofya Melikyan (piano) — two performers united by a remarkable biographical coincidence and a deep artistic connection. Book tickets online Hailing from Germany and Armenia respectively, they will present a programme in tribute to Hungarian composer György Kurtág, who turns 100 this year. The programme also includes a world premiere by Canarian composer Manuel Bonino. Alongside the concert, a session from the #endiálogo series will take place, led by neuroscientist, neurosurgeon and musician Jesús Martín-Fernández, on the theme of music and neuroscience. It will draw on measurements of the subjective experience of control groups in the audience at this concert in Tenerife and at the Cuarteto Diotima concert in Gran Canaria. The session will be held on 24 September at 19:00 at Fundación DISA (Gran Canaria).
