The Fiestas de Valle Jiménez programme includes talks, musical performances, tournaments, competitions, exhibitions, a Traditional Boats gathering, Motor Day, a Livestock Fair, children's activities and street dances with various orchestras and bands. It culminates with traditional races, a tribute to the elderly and a communal paella. Saturday, 22 August – 21:00 Festival opening speech at the Centro Ciudadano, delivered by Eduardo Pérez de Ascanio y Gutiérrez de Salamanca, the church's quantity surveyor and a member of a family closely tied to the village. Followed by a musical performance by Trío Insula. Monday, 24 August – 19:00 Lecture and discussion by Airam Alonso Suárez, anthropologist and sociologist, on: 'Leocadio Machado and the Valleys of the 1930s and 40s. Anthropological portraits of a journalist from La Laguna'. Tuesday, 25 August – 19:00 Talk by Ángel Cabrera 'Queco' on 'Ageism: a survival guide for the over-45s. How to grow old with pride… and stick it to the system'. Wednesday, 26 August – 19:00 Discussion: 'What do I want to be when I grow up?' A meeting between young people and teenagers about vocations, studies, work, dreams, doubts and decisions. Thursday, 27 August – 19:00 Talk by Miguel Pérez Carballo 'El que camina en los nombres' on the place names (toponyms) of Montaña de Guerra and Las Mesas. 20:00 Performance by the parranda Cho Marcial to close the cultural programme. Final toast. Friday, 28 August – 17:00 Table tennis tournament at the Centro Ciudadano. 20:30 Musical gathering 'Nuestras Raíces', with Atimaguara, Los Majuelos and A.F. Itamar.
