In this new project, Acosta explores human resilience through the Japanese concept of kintsugi — the traditional technique of repairing broken pottery with gold, making it more valuable than before. The artist translates this philosophy onto fragmented and mended bodies, whose scars are revealed as iridescent and luminous, adding worth to lived experience and stripping pain, wounds, and grief of any stigma or shame. Through visual symbolism, the exhibition asserts that healing does not follow a straight or simple path, but moves through necessary ups and downs in which boundaries, personal space, the integration of suffering, and self-acceptance all play a vital role.
